An educational philosophy is quite simply a statement (whether short or long) about what a teacher believes about education.
My educational philosophy is child centered meaning that everything I believe about education stems from the idea that education should be about what fits each individual child's needs, not what fits the needs of the whole group. Teacher's are tasked with more than just teaching lessons, they are tasked with nurturing children and preparing them to grow and succeed. In my future classroom I hope to be able to facilitate learning in students by working with them to figure out their individual learning style and to foster creativity and critical thinking.
In my classroom I want my students to have meaningful learning experiences. I hope to accomplish this by giving them a lot of student choice in order to capture their personal interest which will make their learning experiences more meaningful to them. By making lessons personal and meaningful to each child through their interests I hope to give students a educational foundation that they can build upon for the rest of their lives.
I love technology. It fascinates me. I have used a lot of Microsoft Office for school related purposes, and I have worked a lot in Excel for my administrative assistant job during the summers. I use the internet all the time for research, for reading articles, for online shopping and for finding new projects to do for my hobbies. I have a blog that I try to keep up with that is all about my life and my various craft projects. I love technology and I am fairly good at using it as well.
I hope to use technology in education in many different ways. In my practicum I have seen how teachers have used the smart board to help with various classroom projects and I hope to have access to a smart board and utilize it with my students. I hope to have iPads which I could rent eBooks on so that the students can listen to reading from many different books. In this class I am hoping to learn about more ways in which I can incorporate technology in the classroom.
